Top Questions
Are you sold on Amazon?
YES! Select Cloverdale products like Summer Sausage and Tangy Snackers are available on Amazon. You can have it shipped to your doorstep anywhere, any time!
Why did you discontinue my favorite product?
Alas, all good things must come to an end.
Due to many consecutive years of low consumer demand, we have made the difficult decision to retire some classic Cloverdale products.
We know some folks might really miss them, and we are truly sorry to disappoint you. Thanks for understanding.
Did you change Tangy?
Yes. We changed the formula back in 2021, to make it easier to ship and travel with. Our loyal customers had been asking us to make it shelf-stable (aka refrigerate after opening) for many years.
Along the way, folks let us know that we had missed the mark on taste. We apologized, listened, and took action to make improvements.
After testing it with thousands of Cloverdale’s customers, we re-launched our current version. Response has been overwhelmingly positive, but we know we can’t please everyone. We pride ourselves on our great taste and are sorry to disappoint anyone.
Carrier Requests/Transportation Services
We appreciate your interest in providing transportation services to Cloverdale Foods.
Our supply chain strategy prioritizes building direct relationships with asset-based regional carriers, driven by the logistical challenges unique to our geographic region. This approach ensures we can consistently meet customer fulfillment expectations through a controlled and dependable carrier network. As such, we do not engage with brokerage companies or allow our available loads to be posted to public load boards.
If you believe your services align with our operational model and performance standards, we invite you to share the following details with logistics@cloverdalefoods.com for consideration:
- Fleet size and equipment types (e.g., reefer, dry van, etc.)
- Service area coverage, particularly in the Upper Midwest
- Experience and references with food-grade or temperature-controlled freight
- Insurance and safety ratings
- ELD/tracking capabilities
- Hours of operation and after-hours structure
Once we receive this information, we’ll evaluate whether there’s a fit with our transportation needs and may reach out for further discussion.
Thank you again for your interest in partnering with Cloverdale.

Allergens & Product Concerns
Do your products contain peanuts or tree nuts?
Peanuts and tree nuts are not handled or processed at our facility.
Do your products contain dairy?
Please reference the product section of our website where allergens and ingredients are listed for individual products.
For example:

Is the lactic acid starter culture in your tangy summer sausage derived from dairy?
No
Are your products Gluten Free?
Our products are made with ingredients that do not contain gluten. However, we are not a Certified Gluten-Free facility, which is an industry certification.
Do your products contain MSG?
Our products contain No Added MSG.
Does Cloverdale summer sausage contain any nightshades or biproduct from the nightshades?
Our summer sausage does not contain any nightshades or biproduct from the nightshades family, if you are referring to the vegetable group. If you are referring to nitrates, it also doesn’t contain any. However, our product does contain sodium nitrite.
Are there nitrites or nitrates in uncured meats?
Yes. All “Uncured” meats do contain nitrites and nitrates, which occur naturally from celery powder and sea salt. “Cured” meats also contain nitrites and nitrates, derived from synthetic chemicals in the curing process. Curing is a process of preserving meat to ensure it is safe to eat.
Therefore, all Uncured meats are technically Cured, and all do contain nitrites and nitrates. We know that this can be confusing! Meat terminology is dictated by United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) labeling regulations.
Do your products contain sesame?
Sesame is not handled or processed at our facility.
Do your products contain artificial colors like Red Dye?
Thank you for sharing your concern about red dye currently in our products. We understand that this has been in the news lately, and has many people questioning the safety of certain ingredients.
A few of our most beloved traditional Cloverdale products -particularly our hot dogs locally known as “red franks”- do contain small amounts of red dye in the casings. We are currently seeking alternative suppliers to explore viable substitutes in order to comply with the new FDA regulations, which take effect in 2027.
Thank you for your patience as we explore the best way to proceed. As with all product changes, we will keep our loyal customers informed every step of the way.
Slaughter Procedures/Sourcing
Cloverdale is a processing plant. The slaughter operation is not a piece of the business that we handle. All of our pork is sourced from US farmers whenever possible. You may also visit www.pork.org for more industry specific information.
